Moscow, winter 2003, the streets around Red Square under a flat blue-grey overcast sky. Snow falls steadily the whole time. The pavements are packed with snow, the Soviet-era facades are soot-stained, the kiosks are small and lit from inside, and old red-and-cream Soviet trams run on iced tracks. Warm amber light from windows spills onto the snow. St. Basil's Cathedral domes sit soft and half-hidden in the snowfall in the background.
The subject is a young adult in their early 20s. Their face, skin tone, eyes, hair colour and hair texture match the reference image exactly in every shot. A natural flush from the cold shows on their cheeks and nose. Their hair is worn loose under a grey fur ushanka. They wear a deep burgundy fur-trimmed long coat, a loose cream oversized wool scarf, cream wide-leg trousers, dark brown leather boots and dark burgundy leather gloves, and carry a warm brown structured leather handbag. 7-11s: Walking down a narrow side street with the tea, the subject stops without warning at a dark shop window and uses their reflection as a mirror. They straighten the ushanka and tuck a loose strand of hair back under it, unaware they are being filmed. Satisfied, they walk on.
11-15s: Walking down the snowy street, tea in one hand and handbag in the other, the subject gets passed at close range by an old Soviet tram rattling by fast. The rush of air knocks the ushanka sideways. They grab it with their tea hand, nearly spill the tea, and laugh to themselves. The footage cuts hard to black mid-laugh.
